How to Use Edge Orchestrators to Deploy Artificial Intelligence at Scale
Many industries are increasingly demanding greater speed and autonomy in decision-making to adapt to increasingly volatile markets. In addition, industrial devices generate an increasing amount of data from more diverse, geographically dispersed devices and with greater frequency. This need to capture more data more frequently and make decisions on the fly has led to an increase in the computing capacity required near the place where the data is generated, i.e., the Edge and the development of distributed Artificial Intelligence, also called Intelligence at the Edge or Edge AI. Edge AI's main advantages are better latencies, optimization of communication bandwidth, reduction of Cloud service costs, and an improved level of security, which is very important in specific critical industries. For all these reasons, the industrial sector is adopting Edge Computing.
'How judges can deploy artificial intelligence'
An expert in legal technology, Ope Olugasa, has said judges can use artificial intelligence (A.I) to easily review and evaluate written addresses and submissions in seconds. The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of LawPavilion Business Solutions, Ope Olugasa, said the firm will showcase its new A.I system geared towards smart justice delivery at the forthcoming biennial judges' conference in Abuja. According to him, the solutions are made by Nigerians to help solve some of the challenges facing the country's justice sector. Olugasa told reporters at a briefing in Lagos that the new solution, A.I Document Review, can identify a judge's previous judgments on similar issues. He said it makes adjudication easier and faster, without judges having to always reinvent the wheel in deciding each matter.
Mobile 5G Network Powers up Internet of Things (IoT)
Communications technology reached a historic milestone at the beginning of April this year as Hong Kong's fifth-generation mobile (5G) network was officially fully connected, linking all major communication equipment. A 5G network provides much more than just increased bandwidth and speed – 5G provides the opportunity to deploy artificial intelligence (AI) technology to bring the much-discussed Internet of Things (IoT) out of the laboratory and into the real world. To give people from all walks of life a better understanding of 5G networks, the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) held the Tech Trends Symposium 2020 – The Future of Intelligent Connectivity on 28 July. Forming part of the HKTDC's Summer Sourcing Weeks Go ONLINE virtual trade fair (27 July-7 August), the symposium was streamed online. At a session titled "Empowering a Connected Future with 5G", industry leaders introduced the latest developments in 5G networks and expressed the hope that Hong Kong will keep pace with the world in moving towards 5G and building a smart city.

Gartner Says Nearly Half of CIOs Are Planning to Deploy Artificial Intelligence
Meaningful artificial intelligence (AI) deployments are just beginning to take place, according to Gartner, Inc. Gartner's 2018 CIO Agenda Survey shows that four percent of CIOs have implemented AI, while a further 46 percent have developed plans to do so. "Despite huge levels of interest in AI technologies, current implementations remain at quite low levels," said Whit Andrews, research vice president and distinguished analyst at Gartner. "However, there is potential for strong growth as CIOs begin piloting AI programs through a combination of buy, build and outsource efforts." As with most emerging or unfamiliar technologies, early adopters are facing many obstacles to the progress of AI in their organizations. Gartner analysts have identified the following four lessons that have emerged from these early AI projects.
- South America > Brazil > São Paulo (0.05)
- North America > United States > Texas > Tarrant County > Grapevine (0.05)
- Asia > Japan > Honshū > Kantō > Tokyo Metropolis Prefecture > Tokyo (0.05)
- Asia > India > Maharashtra > Mumbai (0.05)

More North Sea firms expected to deploy artificial intelligence - News for the Oil and Gas Sector
As artificial intelligence (AI) makes a "powerful impact" on other sectors, more North Sea players are expected to deploy digital innovations. Louise Sayers is head of natural resources at advisory firm BDO, whose comments come as Shell announced its commitment to the North Sea yesterday. The energy giant said it hopes to be in the region for another 50 years, as it celebrates five decades of North Sea production. Ms Sayers said this was welcome news, and said now is the time for the North Sea to "grasp digital innovation". She said: "Oil and gas companies were forced to ruthlessly cut costs and sharpen their investment filters to survive the oil price crash in 2014.

Nearly half of CIOs now plan to deploy artificial intelligence
It's no surprise that artificial intelligence is catching on this year, but fully half of all CIOs now have plans to implement AI technologies in their organizations according to Gartner Inc. Gartner is hosting its annual Data and Analytics Summit in Grapevine, Texas this week, which has attracted over 3,000 IT and data executives and professionals to learn more about the potential and opportunities with AI. A recent study by Garner, the 2018 CIO Agenda Survey, found that while "meaningful artificial intelligence (AI) deployments are just beginning to take place … four percent of CIOs have implemented AI." But another 46 percent have developed plans to do so. Artificial intelligence, which is an umbrella term referring to nearly a dozen different technologies such as machine learning, deep learning or robotic process automation, seems to be top buzzword in IT this year, but there is a great deal of hype around the topic, according to Gartner. "Despite huge levels of interest in AI technologies, current implementations remain at quite low levels," said Whit Andrews, research vice president and distinguished analyst at Gartner. "However, there is potential for strong growth as CIOs begin piloting AI programs through a combination of buy, build and outsource efforts."
